Round 5 – Bad News and Good News
The Bad News
With regret we have to announce that the fifth round scheduled to be held in Bantry on August 27th has had to be cancelled. Despite a huge amount of hard work by the Rebel MTB club building trails from scratch specifically for the event. The land that the trails were located on has been sold, and is no longer available to host the race. The entire Grassroots Enduro team would like to say a massive thank you to Rebel MTB for all their hard work, and we hope to see you host another event soon.
The Good News
Now to the good news. You were promised five rounds in 2017. And it is our great pleasure to announce that round five of the the Polygon Grassroots Enduro Series supported by Bikingdirty.com will be hosted by South Tipperary Cycling Club on October 8th at Scarragh Woods, Cahir. Cahir has been the venue for multiple events in the past and has always gone down well with competitors.
Registration for Round 5 – Cahir will open on July 5th at 7pm.
South Tipperary Cycling Club – STCC
South Tipp Cycling Club (STCC) was formed in 2012 and is based in Clogheen, Co. Tipperary. The club has seen rapid growth in members over the past few years. While initially starting out as a leisure club, with club spins taking place each Sunday, and two different groups covering distances on the road between 50km and 100km plus year around. The club has some A3 and A4 riders who race local road events each year.
While predominately focusing on road events over the past few years there has always been an element of the club that enjoyed mountain biking during the winter months as our area boasts some of the best natural mountain trails in Ireland.
The Nire Valley Drop has been an event that STCC has always supported in October of each year. The event has been located at the foot of the Knockmealdown mountains. Mountain biking is right on our door step so in 2017 it was decided to see if we could get a few members to enter some Enduro events. Thus far we have had 4 members who have taken on Enduro events in 2017. Barry Fitzgerald, Stephen Grant and James Ryan have all completed in the Grassroots Enduro while Adrian O’Donnell has competed in the Gravity Enduro events in the club colours. Each weekend all year round there are members who go out in the local mountains looking for those natural new trails. Our aim is to promote mountain biking for all levels and explore the vast natural surroundings which lie on our door step. The mountain biking section of the club is supported by Cahir Media who cover all the events helping us to promote MTB by capturing photos of our members in action at these events.
Our club is helped also by our sponsors Morrison BMW, Hankook & Eamon Gleeson Tyres, Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, Believe 2 Achieve Clonmel, Boston Scientific and without their support we could not function as a club.
